Electrical Safety Services
All electrical and electronic products sold in markets around the world
must demonstrate that they function according to existing electrical safety
regulations and standards. These standards and regulations differ from
country to country, with varying degrees of complexity.
At
TÜV SÜD Canada, we are fluent in the complex language of electrical safety. Our
testing facilities and expert staff around the world provide electrical
testing and certification services, whether your need is on a local, country
or global scale. Our services include testing and certification for compliance
to many market requirements, including Europe, the United States and Canada.
- Europe
TÜV SÜD is a Notified Body for the European Union Low
Voltage Directive, providing testing and certification services
that enable clients to confidently apply the CE Marking to their products.
- United States
TÜV SÜD America is an NRTL (Nationally
Recognized Testing Laboratory) capable of performing electrical safety
testing to a variety of UL/ANSI standards.
- Canada
TÜV SÜD Canada is accredited by the SCC (Standards Council of Canada) as a Certification Body able

Safety Certification in Canada
All electrical and similar consumer or commercial products sold in Canada are required to be certified by a Certification Body accredited by the Standards Council of Canada.
Products entering Canada will be inspected by Canadian Customs authorities, and any product not certified will not be allowed entry. Products that are shipped to Canada without certification or products that are intended to have limited production runs may be inspected by an appropriate agency at the factory or at the port of entry in accordance with Canadian Model Code SPE 1000. This is known as a Special Inspection. Special Inspection labels are accepted by authorities in all Canadian Provinces and Territories.
Safety Certification in the USA
In the U.S., there are many municipalities that have laws, codes or regulations which require a product to be tested by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (like TÜV SÜD) before it can be sold in their area.
Products intended to be used in the workplace must be listed by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) accredited by the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
It's about providing seamless, value-added services at every stage of the certification process:
- Design assessment from preliminary to the finished product.
- Perform on-site special inspections and field evaluations
- Provide extensive service for certification testing at our fully equipped laboratory
- Interpret Standards of Certification and Regulatory Bodies
